The Challenge
An Australian based company had recently won a significant contract manufacturing an extremely complicated defence component. The company needed to purchase a machine tool that had the capability to manufacture the component with a minimal amount of setups to maintain accuracy to datums and to meet the allowed manufacturing times.
The Solution
KAL Global was engaged to investigate and specify an appropriate machine tool, capable of completing the part in two operations, combining both turning and 5 axis milling operations on the one machine while maintaining the parts' demanding tolerances. The basis of the selection was cycle time, accuracy, and local support.
Results
- After a comprehensive investigation into appropriate machine tools, one was selected and ordered with a process guarantee.
- Due to the complexity of the machine extended warranties were negotiated by KAL Global
- The selection of the machine was such a success that the first part of the machine was 100% compliant and met the target machining hours.
